AES Earns Spot on Top 15 List in the Western Region for its American Heart Walk Efforts

Members of AES Heart Walk TeamOn Saturday, September 26, the AES Holy-Walk-A-Molies team came in first place in Anchorage as the top fundraising team with a grand total of $13,049.02 in donations. Over 35 AES employees and family members braved the rain and cold to support their team and the American Heart Association (AHA) and participated in the 5K walk downtown on the park strip.

After the walk, Joe Kocienda, AES Project Controls Manager and a heart attack survivor, accepted additional awards on AES’ behalf including a top contractor award for AES and a top individual support award for AES CEO and President, Jeff Kinneeveauk, who raised $6,446. Throughout the summer and fall, the Holy-Walk-A-Molies held bake sales, auctions, and pizza sales to raise money for the AHA and the team was well received and supported by co-workers and tenants in the building who donated or purchased items.

AES created the Holy-Walk-A-Molies team in 2014, when Jeff Kinneeveauk chaired the Alaska Heart Walk and came in fourth as a top walker and fundraiser. The final 2014 results placed AES seventh out of 15 as a top company in the Western States Area (WSA) region; a 10-state region that includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Montana, Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii.

The money raised for the Anchorage Heart Walk funds research and initiatives that promote the prevention, treatment and better patient care in the areas of cardiovascular disease, the leading killer in the United States. The AHA is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to defeating heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. Last year, 15,000 companies participated in 343 Heart Walk locations throughout the U.S. and helped raised $108 million for the AHA and American Stroke Association.
